Week 13-Art Activity-Portfolio Research
Brown Physical Therapy: http://brownphysicaltherapyclinic.com/
Brown Physical Therapy is a local clinic in my hometown. They have been in Natomas for about 15 years. I interviewed the owner of the clinic for my Kinesiology class. She explained to me that the clinic specializes in many different things such as Myofascial and Lymphedema Therapy. Along with therapy they also offer massages, ultrasound imaging, training, and nutrition. They allow students to do internships throughout the year.
Ever since the 8th grade I’ve always wanted to enter the Physical Therapy field. It’s always been an interest of mine to help others after an injury. The owner of the clinic told me that when in college she was in the same major as I am now. With being a Kinesiology: Exercise Science major by the time I enter the work field I would already have some knowledge when it comes to helping around the clinic. Since I already know the owner and see her around the community, I have a connection when it comes time to apply for internships.
Kaiser is one of the largest managed care organization in the United States. The Physical Therapy Department typically examine patients and work with them to create a treatment plan. Besides therapy, they also help with exercise. Some exercises include stretching, core exercises, weight lifting, and walking. The physical therapist at the hospital can specialize in different types of care like back and neck pain, rehab, wound care, cancer-related problems, and treatment of children or older patients.
As I said before I’ve always been interested in Physical Therapy. Most of my family works at Kaiser right now, so I wanted to work in the same hospital as my other family members. At the moment I’m not trained enough to offer anything at the hospital, but after finishing my bachelor's degree and going to a Physical Therapy school I think I would be able to offer some knowledge. Since I’m also a Kaiser member I know the procedures for the hospital.
Lighthouse Chiropractic: https://sacramentoinjurychiros.com/
Lighthouse Chiropractic is a clinic located in Sacramento. The office not only has chiropractors but Orthopedics, Neurologists, MRI facilities, and Physical Therapists. The clinic works with others in order to help acute trauma injuries from car accidents. The treatments the clinic offers are ultrasounds, LLLT, electric stimulation, decompression traction, hydrotherapy massages, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and chiropractic adjustments.
Although chiropractors are part of the Kinesiology Major I have no experience whatsoever with the field. I only became interested this semester, after a guest speaker came in and talked about it in my Kinesiology class. Currently, I have nothing to offer to the company. However, if I decide to change my career path and go to chiropractor school rather than physical therapy I would be able to assist the clinic.
Julie Wiebe (Physical Therapist): https://www.juliewiebept.com/
I mentioned Julie Wiebe in my discussion post. She’s a Physical Therapist who specializes in women’s fitness. She works with women who injured themselves or who had gone through pregnancy. I wasn’t able to find Wiebe’s resume but I was able to find her website and blog. Her website includes many different things that are easy for patients to find and have access to. Her blog can be found on her website. Some posts she’s made revolve around exercise, finding pros, or women’s health. From seeing her website I can see how much she cares for her patients and the resources they have.
Sue Falsone (Physical Therapist): https://suefalsone.com/
Sue Falsone is another Physical Therapist I mentioned in my discussion post. She is known as the first woman to become an athletic trainer for the four main sports in the US. On Falsone’s website, you can find many things including her blog and products. By seeing her products, such as her book and DVD, I can see how professional she is. From her blog, I can also see how she is a family person by looking at her posts about her family trips.
Dr. Chris S. Gibson (Chiropractor): https://gibsonchirocare.com/
Chris Gibson is a chiropractor in the Sacramento Area. I wasn’t able to find his resume, but I attached his website. On his website, I can find many things such as their blog and what services they offer. From the website, I can see Gibson cares about his family since the first thing you see when you open the website is a family photo. Same as Wiebe I can see Gibson cares about his patients by making the information easy to access.
If I was to create a website now I wouldn't be able to put much on it besides my background and education. But, later on, when I’ve gained more experience I think I would be able to create an excellent website. I think a website is important because it can show different parts of you that can't be seen on a resume. Like how Gibson and Falsone included their family into the website. A website can be seen as an extension for a resume. Having a website can also make you seem more professional and showcase what you’ve been doing in your field.
